Aeons
The Aeon series is an exploration of Irish bogwood, a timber preserved by the earth for thousands of years, a primordial timber. These works act as a dialogue between the ancient origins of the organic material and a modern finish. The intention is to take a material that has been hidden in the darkness of the earth and bring it into the light, treating it as a precious artifact rather than a rustic fragment.
In these pieces, the wood is brought to a luster reminiscent of 18th-century master cabinetmakers. This finish is a deliberate choice to allow light to reveal the depth of the grain and the history within the fibers. The Aeons are assertive forms that borrow their silhouettes from the biographies of objects built to endure.
This series heavily utilizes archetypal geometry—the cube and the block—forms that feel embedded in our collective DNA. By applying these fundamental shapes to an ancient material, the work seeks a continuity of form that spans millennia. The result aims for monastic simplicity that invites a sense of silence and stillness, allowing the material’s long journey from the earth to be observed without distraction.
Polyliths
The Polylith series focuses on granite, a material that has served as the literal foundation of architecture for centuries. These works utilize unfinished fragments, discarded goods, to ground the viewer in a sense of permanence. They are studies on the borders between the ordered and the chaotic, and our impulse to structure and organize the natural world.
In these studies, the focus is on architectural balance. While the granite provides an immovable weight, the forms are carefully considered to ensure they feel intentional. Each Polylith proposes an intermediary state between the raw foundation and the intervention of the maker.
The series explores the strength of the block as a primary human intervention in the landscape. By stripping away the ornamental, the work highlights the texture of the stone. These pieces are designed to feel like recovered fragments of a larger, older history, encouraging a slow observation of the weight of the physical world.
Stelae
The Stelae series utilizes green marble, brass, and inox to create an immovable and heavy presence in a room. These low tables explore the intersection of two classical foundations: the cool presence of stone and the warmth of metal.
The process is a direct dialogue with the stone’s history. The intricate veining of the marble reveals millennia of subterranean pressure, which is then contrasted with the precision of modern metalwork. The heavy, monolithic base provides a structural weight that grounds the object, while the polished metal surfaces catch the light.
