Aeons
The Aeon series is a series of exercises. They are an exploration of Irish bogwood, a primordial timber. Irish bogwood is between 3,000 and 8,000 years old, though some rare pieces can date back more than 50,000 years.
These works can be seen as a dialogue between the ancient origins of this unique organic material and a modern finish. In these pieces, the wood was cut in small cubes of different sizes and then polished. The intent is to leave and show the depth of the grain and the history within the fibers.
This series utilizes archetypal geometry—the cube and the block. By applying fundamental shapes to an ancient material, the work seeks a continuity of time. The result aims for monastic simplicity.
Polyliths
The Polylith series is another series of exercises. This time on granite, a material that was used for centuries as the literal foundation of architecture. These exercises utilize unfinished fragments, discarded goods. They are studies on the borders between the ordered and the chaotic. They talk to our impulse to structure and organize the natural world.
In these studies, the focus is on architectural balance.
The granite provides an immovable weight, the forms are intentional.
By stripping away the ornamental, the work highlights the texture of the stone. These pieces are designed to feel like recovered fragments of a larger, older history.
Stelae
The Stelae series are her first exercises on tables with marble. These first exercises utilize green marble, brass, and inox. These low tables explore the intersection of two classic foundations: the cool presence of stone and the warmth of metal.
The stone has history. The intricate veining of the marble reveals millennia of subterranean pressure, contrasted with the precision of metalwork. The monolithic base provides a structural weight that grounds the object, and the polished metal catches light.
These pieces are intended to be heavy, tactile anchors to the spaces they are in.
